Story of Melanoma Foot.
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer which commonly presents as a mole which is increasing in size and ulcerating.
This elderly gentleman presented with a history of non healing ulcer over great toe for the last three years.
He attributed the onset of ulcer to a injury and was on consult with multiple care providers who were managing the ulcer in terms of a non healing wound owing to wound infection, poor blood supply.
Since its been quite long the wound was not healing with any treatment, and also noticing the growing black pigmentation around the ulcer, the treating doctor sent a biopsy which turned out to be a melanoma and he was referred to oncology.
We examined the ulcer closely and noted the extent of the mealnoma patch, obtained scans to see the extent of spread of the disease, since melanomas can spread rapidly to other parts of the body.
since it had spread to lymph nodes and also involved the entire toe, he underwent a toe disarticulation and inguinal lymph node dissection. Now patient is doing alright,

My motto of writing this is to provide awareness about skin cancers.
This problem could have been solved successfully with much smaller and much less complex surgery if presented earlier.
So Seek proper medical attention early if there is any non healing wound for more than a month.

Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer, characterized by the uncontrolled growth of pigment-producing cells. It often develops in existing moles or appears as new spots.
**Warning Symptoms of Melanoma:**
1. **Asymmetry:** One half of the mole doesn’t match the other.
2. **Border:** Irregular, scalloped, or poorly defined edges.
3. **Color:** A variety of colors (brown, black, tan, red, white, or blue) within the same mole.
4. **Diameter:** Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser).
5. **Evolving:** Changes in size, shape, or color over time.
